chance用法考察

一、名词

表示“机会”，是可数名词，要表示“做某事的机会”，其后可接 to do sth 或 of doing sth。如：

句型：chance (of sth) | chance (to do sth) | chance (for sb to do sth)

机会；机遇；时机……

We won't get another chance of a holiday this year.

我们今年不会再有机会度假了。

Please give me a chance to explain.

请给我一个解释的机会。

Tonight is your last chance to catch the play at your local theatre.

表示“希望”“可能性”，可用作可数名词或不可数名词。要表示“做某事的可能性”一般含有希望发生的意思（尤指希望发生的事的），通常后接“of+（动）名词”或由that引导的同位语从句。如：

句型：chance of doing sth | chance that… | chance of sth happening | ~ of sth “希望”“可能性”

在现代英语中，chance 表示“可能性”时，其后有时也可接不定式，但不如用 of doing sth 普通。

3. take a chance为习语，其意为“冒险”“投机”，不是“获得机会”。如：

Lorraine didn’t know me but she took a chance on my honesty. 洛兰并不认识我，但她就我的诚实冒了回险。

When installing electrical equipment don't take any chances . A mistake could kill.

安装电器设备时千万不要冒险，弄错了有可能会出人命的。

We took a chance on the weather and planned to have the party outside.

我们怀着天气可能会好的侥幸心理筹划到户外聚会。

You take a chance on the weather if you holiday in the UK...

4. give sb/sth half a chance

给…一些机会

That dog will give you a nasty bite, given half a chance.

5. have not a dog's chance

毫无机会；绝无可能

He hasn't a dog's chance of passing the exam.

他根本不可能通过这次考试。

1.冒险、；拿…去冒风险

chance+名词（代词）

She was chancing her luck driving without a licence.
