data作主语时谓语动词只能用作复数形式吗吗

许多语法书都堂而皇之地说data已经是复数了，后面如果是be动词用are或者were，如果是其他动词则用复数形式，甚至于全国英语专业8级考题也是这么认为的。然而实际上data是datum复数形式，但是，其谓语动词根据实际情况既可以使用复数形式，也可以使用单数形式。尤其，data作“(储存在计算机中的)数据资料”解时是不可数名词。
